Jeanne d’Arc Japanese television ad

Posted by gundampilotspaz on March 29, 2007

We told you about Jeanne d’Arc, a Japanese role playing game based on the real life story of story of Joan of Arc coming to the U.S. for domestic release yesterday. While PSP RPGs may or may not float your boat, this commercial might do the trick.

This video is an extended length Japanese commercial for Jeanne d’Arc. It’s a parody of the turn-based strategy game play, yanked right out of the 15th century and dropped into a current day office environment. Three workers attempt to approach their boss (the boss) without dying, but he’s already pissed off, so they’re forced to fight back. This commercial definitely gets its full nerd on with the statistical overlays displaying remaining hit point and magic meters. Also, stick around for the end of the video as it also includes a 15 second television spot for the game.

In related news, be sure to check out the newly launched U.S. Web site for Jeanne d’Arc, which contains new information and screen shots.

Why can’t video game ads be this awesome in America?

In fact… why aren’t there more Video Game ads in America period?

I bet if we played things like this on American TV Sony would sell more units, and everyone would make more money.  Well…. thats the dream.

New Final Fantasy on the Horizon

Posted by gundampilotspaz on March 27, 2007

Not enough Final Fantasy games on the Horizon for you? This ought to pitch a tent in your pants. Square Enix has announced an event called “Square Party 2007″ on May 12th and 13th at Makuhari Messe, near Tokyo. Here’s the full translation:

Square Enix released, in daily Japanese newspaper Yomiuri Shimbun, a publicity page to announce their special event “Square Enix Party 2007″ which will take place the 12th and 13th of next May at Makuhari Messe, a few kilometers east of Tokyo, Japan. We also find the logos of all of the shutters of the Final Fantasy series in development, as well as a phrase that’s intriguing enough, but leaves us dreaming; “Evolution will never stop, the series continues … and a new Final Fantasy that no one knows will enter the scene.” So, will a new Final Fantasy really be presented on the 20th anniversary of the series? Something to follow very closely.

Square is so vague and dreamy. When I think about the main offices, I imagine a bunch of Japanese men and women in business suits, lazily having meetings and periodically smoking opium. It would definately explain the existance of Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. Anyway, what the hell does “a Final Fantasy that no one knows mean”? More importantly, do we care?

I think the possibility of more Final Fantasy is always a cause for celebration.

Protopage feed reader

Posted by gundampilotspaz on March 25, 2007

After using Protopage.com for two months I can now highly recommend it to anyone looking for a web based feedreader that combines all the sites, comics, and podcasts you visit daily into a single page that can be opened anywhere you have access to a Computer with an internet connection.

I’ve been looking for a simple and good feed reader. This is the most interesting one I’ve found.

If you go to Protopage.com it’ll generate you a page with a whole bunch of windows already open. This is the only downside because I like to start from a clean slate so I had to manually delete everything before added my own feeds. Also the example has “gravity” turned off so it’s messy, which annoys me.

But after playing around I think I got it down to a simple reader that might improve the way you get information. Lets look at it after I cleaned it up

Basic News feeds when all are displayed

A feed fully open

The podcast feeds with a podcast playing at the top of the browser.

A feed open with the Podcast control over the top.

The feed reader I’ve been using daily will be useful for not only organizing my feeds so that I can access them from both of my machines without having to do further work, but also so I can access them from work or school. The Podcasting feature is exciting if I don’t have my laptop and want to listen to them remotely.

I suggest checking it out, it’s not only the best feedreader I’ve used so far it is also the best looking and the easiest to use. The fact that it’s a web based application makes it all that more useful as it works multi-platform and can be accessed from anywhere.

Rap Cat Checkers TV Commercial

Posted by gundampilotspaz on March 24, 2007

Here is the original:

Which was followed up by the full music video:

Harmless and cute promotion? It certainly makes me want to eat at Checkers (I’m not hard to please)… however some people believe their next promotion went too far:

Because CNN has nothing better to do then devoting time to talking about the morality of putting a bag on a cat?

At least the major news organizations know what is important to Americans.

From the “So cool it must be posted” department

Posted by gundampilotspaz on March 23, 2007

This statue of Tokiko from the Anime Busou Renkin is just about one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen. Probably one of the most impressive looking figures that I’ve seen, if you cancel out any of the perfect grade models (which you need to be insane to build)

The author of the review (linked below) seems to be the hardest person to please in the entire world.

Takiko takes a rather stoic pose, with hands by her side and feet spaced apart – the pose of power. It’s only natural that with her skirt, her arms don’t really move all that much. Her left closed fist creates an impression of power while her right openly-stretched fingers show the attribute of control. Her hips are slightly leaning to the left and I don’t like this. I would’ve preferred a symmetrical foot placing. Anyway, she’s stable enough to stand without her base, especially with her weapons supporting.

Her base is an enlarged version of her kakugane (core metal), the origin of her power. I don’t like it because the cheap gray finish and ugly hexagon design (Watsuki’s fault) is so gaudy. The base has two plugs, one for each of her feet.

Either that or I might be the easiest person to please in the entire world. You decide and leave a comment stating your opinion!

Confirmed: NiGHTS To Show Up On The Nintendo Wii.

Posted by gundampilotspaz on March 21, 2007

No need to run to the Ophthalmology, you read right, Sonic Team developed NiGHTS has been confirmed by both Sega and Nintendo this morning. Rumors reached its peek this past week as pictures published on Nintendo’s official periodical Official Nintendo Magazine circulated throughout the web illustrating what seemed to be the acrobatic protagonist of NiGHTS formed by stars laid out on a pitch black sky with two white bold-lettered words “World Exclusive”. Both parties involved with the NiGHTS project have both stated that this won’t be a port of Sega Saturn’s 1996 title for the Nintendo Wii’s Virtual Console; Instead the untitled game will amplify the franchise making it it’s official sequel. Fans of the now original NiGHTS game shouldn’t dismiss the probability of seeing our jester attired friend from appearing in 32-bit format as part of Nintend Wii’s Virtual Console marketplace.

All around the world Sega fans rejoice!

I can think of no better console, including Saturn, that Nights should be on.

Nintendo is again.. King

Posted by gundampilotspaz on March 20, 2007

The latest NPD figures are in. Let’s start us a pissing contest! In short, February was nuts. Loco. Seriously. Look at these numbers:

  • Game sales and accessories were up 53%, hardware sales up a whopping 98%, giving the total industry a 66% boost. Raining on the parade ever-so-slightly is the fact this year’s February figures are a week longer than last year’s.
  • Between the Wii, DS, GBA and GC Nintendo shifted 980,000 units. In February.
  • Crackdown was by far the biggest-selling game, moving 427,000 copies. Next up was the Wii Play/Wii Remote bundle, which sold 371,000 copies.
  • With only 127,000 sold, the PS3 was outsold by the Wii. And the 360. And the PS2. And the GBA. Ouch.
  • Nintendo seems to just be rubbing it into the face of Microsoft and Sony at this point. The Wii and the DS are selling so powerfully that as soon as six months they could close the gap with the pre-mature seventh-gen system: The Xbox 360.

With more titles coming just on the horizon, I don’t see a way to slow Nintendo down. In the coming months we have Super Smash Brother, Metroid, Pokemon, Mario Party 8, and Super Paper Mario. If I were Microsoft and Sony… I’d be very worried.

Sony’s reaction was possible the best part of it all:
