Engadget reported on a rumor that there might be a wireless version of the iTunes store coming down soon for use with the iPhone and the new “wireless” ipods.
Wild rumoring is of course inevitable with an Apple event on the horizon, and MacDailyNews is doing its part with this latest wireless iTunes doozy. Apparently alongside the oft-rumored wireless iPods, Wednesday will also bring “wireless iTunes Store sales” to the iPhone and said iPods. MacDaily’s source also claims that the iPods will indeed be Mac OS X-based, and that we should “Prepare to be stunned [with] iPod’s new capabilities.” Of course, a wireless iPod is perfectly plausible, and a wireless iTunes store seems like something Apple’s going to have to break down and build sooner or later, but there’s really no telling that the cited source has any inside line on such a thing, so we’re going to remain firmly skeptical on this one until we get a few hard facts — like a wireless iTunes Store, for instance.
Of course, Engadget has been reporting on wireless ipods since late 2006, successful use of wi-fi in the iPhone might finally give them the excuse to give us wireless music players.
Gizmodo is rethinking their hatred of the Empire as these stormtroopers reveal themselves:
Apparently, you guys really like Sexy Stormtroopers. Fair enough. Far be it from me to judge your creepy and pathetic sexual fantasies. Whoops, I just did! My bad. In any case, apparently a couple of folks named Red and Johnny enjoy wearing Stormtrooper helmets in a variety of often-suggestive situations. Here’s a gallery of some of the finer examples of their art; follow the Flickr link to see the motherload.
It’s as if a thousand nerds just shouted out in joy!
Leaving work today I got a text message from AT&T that says:
“AT&T free msg: We are simplifying your paper bill, removing itemized detail. To view detail go to att.com/mywireless. Still need full paper bill? Call 611.”
It would seem like Justine got her wish and AT&T won’t be spending $7.50 to send her a bill in a box again, good job AT&T…. you aren’t sending people novel length bills anymore.
Yes, I tried to make that sound as positive toward AT&T as I could….
Shizzle Games of Belgium is not only showing new prices for other parts of Europe (€449/€349/€279) but also new names for the SKUs, redubbing the Core model “Arcade” and the middle one the “Pro”. That new “Arcade” SKU will also come with five XBLA games which should just about fill the 256 MB memory card it comes packed with. It’s also sporting an HDMI port. Though we haven’t heard of a similar rebranding of the Core here in the U.S. it does make us wonder if we should be interpreting Core systems being discontinued in a whole new way. Read — Official: Xbox 360 gets UK price drop Read — Nu ook officieel: Microsoft verlaagt prijs Xbox 360
So instead of a core system you are going to get the Arcade version, the version is advertising the fact that you can download games from Live Arcade but…. it doesn’t come with a hard drive? This seems like some kind of cruel joke, but those Live Arcade fans in the UK will have to stock up on memory cards to get the most of the experience from their new xBox because god knows they can’t play the games that require a hard drive Microsoft is about to release.
Microsoft,
Put a Hard Drive in the core unit, or get rid of the core unit, before you have a class action lawsuit against the fact that xBox360 owners can’t play their games on a hard-driveless console.
Gizmodo has a report that claims the PS3 is almost unbreakable.
With all the coverage of how the Xbox 360s are failing left and right in the past few months, there hasn’t been much coverage of how sturdy the PS3 is. PS3 Vault took a PS3 into harsh environments, continuously using it for 108 hours with various games and Blu-ray movies. Their findings? The PS3 is pretty much indestructible.
The guys did three tests, one at room temperature, one down at 0 degrees F (below zero), and one at 120F. Besides slight condensation on the cord in the cold and a burning smell in the heat, the PS3 actually held up perfectly fine. It went back to a working environment and plays just like normal. It seems pretty reliable, Sony does make solid hardware and always has where Microsoft… well…. they haven’t had such a good track record with hardware. The fact that this report came out surrounded by stories of the xBox 360 failing brings a smile to my face. Sony is getting closer and closer to reaching that point where buying their console is reasonable.
AMSTERDAM (Reuters) – A giant, smiling Lego man was fished out of the sea in the Dutch resort of Zandvoort on Tuesday.
Workers at a drinks stall rescued the 2.5-metre (8-foot) tall model with a yellow head and blue torso.
“We saw something bobbing about in the sea and we decided to take it out of the water,” said a stall worker. “It was a life-sized Lego toy.”
A woman nearby added: “I saw the Lego toy floating towards the beach from the direction of England.”
The toy was later placed in front of the drinks stall.
The fun part of this is going to be trying to figure out where it came from! My money is on the fact that it’s an alien who handed here dorment and will awaken soon to go on a killing spree.
Giant lego goes on killing spree…. I think that’s an awesome concept for a novel.
I thought my first iPhone bill was insane when it came out to be about 30 pages. But some people seem to be more heavy users than even me, like Justine.tv:
And she even make the local news:
In fact, according to some estimates AT&T will destory more than 74,00 tress to send out iPhone bills.
while the exact number is yet to be determined, current consensus puts the number of iphones sold at 270,000 for the first day and a half of sales, and expectations at around 10 million devices to be sold by the end of 2008. if during this time at&t does not get its act together and stop sending out bills that are averaging 50 pages in length, they’re going to have a lot more than just unsatisfied customers after them.
A cord of wood is approximately 8 feet wide, 4 feet deep, and 4 feet high. A cord of air-dried, dense hardwood (oak, hickory, etc.) weighs roughly 2 tons, about 15-20 percent of which is water. It has been estimated that one cord of this wood will yield one of these approximate quantities of products:
• 1,000-2,000 pounds of paper (depending on the process)
• 942 100-page, hard-cover books
• 61,370 No. 10 business envelopes
• 4,384,000 commemorative-sized postage stamps
• 460,000 personal checks
• 1,200 copies of National Geographic
• 2,700 copies of an average daily newspaper
that said, with 10 million iphones expected to be sold by the end of 2008, that means 10 million at&t customers that can expect to get 50-page bills, 12 times a year, totaling 6 billion sheets of paperwasted (at around 80,500 sheets of paper per tree, this would mean around 74,535 trees) because of at&t’s stupidity. of course sales aren’t going to stop there so it’s up to us to stop at&t from continuing this madness.
So anyone who uses the internet a whole lot (like me) or who texts a whole lot (like Justine) than switch to E-billing and save a couple thousand trees.
The Wii is quickly catching up to the 360, and in a week or two should surpass it. Which will put Nintendo on top of the pack for the first time in a very long time.
There are still two more games that the hardcore gamers might be holding out for; Metroid Prime 3 and Super Smash Brothers. When those two games are released I expect to see a huge jump in Wii sales which should put it out of reach of it’s inferior competitor.
Toy giant Bandai is offering a deluxe “Mobile Suit Gundam” t-shirt with a hefty price tag. Produced with the help of deluxe apparel designers mastermind JAPAN with a design rendered in crystals, each shirt will retail at a price of 200,000 yen (approximately $1,600 US dollars).
According to a Nihon Keizai Shimbun report dated August 2nd, the shirt incorporates Swarovsky crystals handstitched into the fabric to form the shapes of Gundam Mobile Suits and Zakus, etc., from the original “Mobile Suit Gundam” anime. The t-shirt will be available through selected department stores within Japan.
There are also plans to offer a more affordable version of the shirt that utilizes glass beads instead of crystals, retailing at an estimated price of 38,000 yen ($320). This shirt will be sold in the US, France, Italy, Singapore, and China as well as within Japan.
$1600 for a t-shirt with a Gundam on it?! Are they insane! Are the fans in Japan that much crazier than they are in America!?
I know that I’m a crazy fan and I’d spend an obscene about of money on merchandise… but $1600 for a t-shirt seems to only target either the very rich or people who love Gundam so much they haven’t left their house since 1981…. which wouldn’t give them much time to show off a t-shirt.
